Born and raised in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the members of the Horizon String Quartet have earned Master of Music degrees from schools including the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, McGill University, Ottawa University, and the University of Manitoba. The HSQ musicians have performed with the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Individually and collectively, the members of the HSQ have performed at music festivals throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.
Dedicated to both performance and education, the Horizon String Quartet makes community outreach and school presentations a priority in their performing schedules. They have given school presentations in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Québec, Nova Scotia, and San Francisco. During the past seven years, the HSQ has toured to more than 100 different cities in western Canada and has presented for over 100,000 students, teachers, and members of the public. Their 2018 tour was funded by the Canada Council for the Arts Touring Program: Arts Across Canada. Their 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 tours were presented by Culture on the Go which is made possible through funding provided to the Saskatchewan Arts Board by the Government of Saskatchewan through the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. The HSQ was also awarded a “Junior Concerts” tour from the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) for the spring of 2016. Praised by teachers for their “high quality teaching” and their “engaging, entertaining and informational” presentations, the HSQ hopes to continue to perform for young audiences throughout the prairies for years to come.
